President Parvanov Stamped Foot at MRF over Majority Voting
Georgi Parvanov tangled again the threat he would call a referendum on individuals election if MPs do not introduce it and scheduled the date for the general election between June 28 and July 5
Bugaria News | 02.04.2009 16:15President Georgi Parvanov stated firmly to the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) to put up with the introduction of majority voting element for the general election. The head-of-state threatened the MPs that if they do not fulfil his request of February he would right next week table a proposal for calling a national referendum on the issue. He even has a vision how this could go on. “Such a referendum might be called simultaneously with the national general election, which could be scheduled for not earlier than June 28 and not later than July 5”, the President pointed to the repeatedly rehashed date for Bulgaria’s National Assembly election. Parvanov delivered his statement on the election legislation after MRF MP Hristo Bisserov postponed yesterday by procedure the deadline for submitting proposals for amendments to the election laws until 6:00 pm on Friday. The MRF finds it hard to swallow the introduction of majority voting element for the general election and insist that majority candidates were also election tickets heads. The opposition determined this idea as extravagantly wild. (To be continued.)
