CEDB’s informal leader shows concern over the nation’s purity due to Bulgaria’s germ cell donor banks stocking from Denmark
Bulgaria News | 16.02.2009 15:46Sofia Mayor Boyko Borissov elaborated on his pessimistic theory about the Bulgarian nation as “mat’rial”, with the clarification it was actually a “consumable”. The informal leader of Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB) deepened his philosophic ratiocinations during the premiere of Martin Karbovski’s film Emigrants before the eyes and ears of fans of the journalist and politicians in the Odeon cinema house in Sunday, February 15, guests of the first projection of the film told Bulgaria News.
In his speech dedicated to Karbovski’s picture, Borissov voiced some outrage over the reactions of Bulgarian politicians and media to his words qualifying fellow countrymen before the Bulgarian community in Chicago on February 3. Then CEDB’s informal leader stated: “What is the basis of Bulgaria’s population now? Some 1 million gypsies, 700-800 thousand Turks, 2.5 million pensioners. Well, this is against CEDB… And you – 1.5 million, who fled… The mat’rial appearing an elections and out of which we can select in terms of cadres, is not large at all. … It’s easy saying “We count on you”. If we are to count like this, this means in a year I will come off at the bottom as well. … Bulgarians in Ukraine get slowly, slowly assimilated by the Ukrainian state, because they are quality material.
And in Bulgaria – nothing.”
The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) reacted sharply to Borissov’s statements and even wrote declarations. The media exuberantly quoted his words, adding ironic comments. Even possible partners of the mayor from the right in his capacity of a political figure were stunned at his pronunciations in the USA and criticized him explaining such qualifications do no credit to any human being, much less a political leader.
At his return to Bulgaria Borissov denied having determined the Bulgarian nation as “poor quality material” and accused all criticizing him of vile-temperedly trying to discredit him through manipulating his words. Recordings distributed, though, disproved the mayor.
On Sunday and on homeland this time around, Borissov used the chance with his address to the author of Emigrants to elaborate on his ideas of people as “mat’rial”. And explained, that everyone was outraged at the fact he had called Bulgaria’s gypsies, Turks, and pensioners “mat’rial”, but “no one was indignant at the fact Danes are being born in Bulgaria”, because
germ cells from Denmark are imported.
At end-January MP from Bulgarian New Democracy (BND) associate professor Atanas Shterev informed that Bulgaria’s semen banks were exhausted and some hospitals were forced to conclude contracts with international companies for import in order of performing reproductive activities. Shterev added that volunteers for donating semen in Bulgaria were few because it’s not a paid service and announced that Bulgaria receives germ cells from Denmark for 2 years now. Experts explained then that seminal material from Denmark might later on cause discomfort to the future children for those would have some of the physical features characteristic for the North nation and would differ from compatriots in Bulgaria.
“Well, this now could be called a consumable, and they are accusing me of having said “mat’rial””, the Sofia mayor elaborated on his attitudes on Bulgaria’s future citizens. Although obviously concerned about the nation’s purity, set to be “diluted” through Danish germ cells, Borissov missed going deeper into his considerations on the issue, given the citizens conceived with such “consumables” are yet far from the age they would be able to vote.
CEDB’s informal leader is prone to frequently blow up Bulgaria’s society with statements on the
ethnic belonging of Bulgarian citizens.
A few months ago he developed the extravagant for a European state thesis it was high time everyone in Bulgaria cleared out for themselves if they are Bulgarian or Turk, and if one is Turk – go to Turkey. The Sofia mayor developed this thesis while assessing the so-called regeneration process in Bulgaria conducted by the communist regime of ex-dictator Todor Zhivkov, thanks to which Bulgaria was for years criticized by civilized countries and which was, in fact, the reason for the establishment of basically ethnic Turk MRF. 19 years later Biyko Borissov stated the process was mistaken not in terms of philosophy, but as methodology of forcing it.
Bulgaria’s population is often an insuperable problem in the eyes of CEDB’s informal leader. In his capacity of the capital city mayor, he yelled at Sofia inhabitants for coming to live here from the provinces and becoming a reason for traffic jams. In this regard the mayor had the avant-garde idea of restoring residentship and advised people to start for work in the morning after loading their cars with other neighbors travelling in the same directions, and stated cars with only one person in should be banned from traffic. Probably the reason for his attacks versus the Sofia population comes from the fact that despite it’s growing, the number of his electorate in the capital city stays flat at those 200,000 persons in a 2-million city, who elected him mayor.
