Deputy PM Meglena Plugchieva: We Cannot Defend Our Work Before The EU

Elena Dimitrova | 26.05.2009 21:34Bulgaria has concluded contracts for EUR 16 billion under all pre-accession and operative programs of the European Union as of end-April this year, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of EU funds management Meglena Plugchieva reported on her work during the last year. Out of these funds for completed projects and advance payments EUR 2.6 billion has been transferred. From 2007 to end-April 2009 Bulgaria had transferred to the EU budget EUR 843 million. We are leaving to the next government not a small progress in regard of EU funds assumption, Mrs. Plugchieva said. Yet she voiced her embarrassment of the non-stop audits Brussels requests that are sometimes completely unnecessary and repeat work already done. The major reason for this, according to the vice-premier, is the lack of good enough communications and the fact Bulgaria cannot defend what it completes.
